Dancing is as old as human civilization. It dates back thousands of years and has allowed people to express themselves through the movement of their bodies which is great for both exercise and happiness.

At Miami Dance Project, we can answer the question, ‘what is acro dance,’ because we offer a wide variety of after-school programs that guarantee your child will benefit while having fun. We are committed to growing your child’s potential by introducing them to the dance world.

What’s fantastic about us is that we help build confidence through dance. Acro dance training is perfect for children with different abilities. Our dance classes will bridge the gap for those unable to attend mainstream and advanced courses.

What Exactly is Acro Dance?

Acro in dance is a lovely mix of acrobatic elements, dexterity, and athleticism with traditional dance techniques.  Acro dancers smoothly combine melody, line, and extension with acrobatic actions and emotional expression in a dance setting. Their distinctive choreography genuinely sets them apart from other forms of dance.

The Origin of Acro Dance

Acro in dance comes from the word ‘acrobatic.’ It is the earliest acrobatic dance performance that dates back to the 1900s. The very first performance was in a place called Vaudeville. Afterward, combining acrobatic maneuvers and dance styles became increasingly popular.

Through the years, it has evolved into what we teach during our acro dance lessons. Incorporating ballet into the dance movements has become the most significant change.

What does It take?

Typically, dance pushes human movement boundaries more than acrobatics because it is performed to music. Acro dance routine requires mastering acrobatic and dance skills to flow easily as one maneuver.

One, therefore, requires a great degree of flexibility and tight body control to do the acro dance. Your child can reach this level through our acro dance training.

Types of Movements Involved

Handstands, cartwheels, and elbow stands are a few of the acrobatic movements involved. Dancers can also do acro routines in couples or bigger groups as a variation of classical gymnastics and assist one another in gymnastic feats like pitch tucks.

Another element that might be used in an acro dance routine are pyramids of dancers. Finally, your child will learn several acro dances as part of their acro dance lessons.

Benefits of Acro Dance

As we have seen, acro dance lessons require an athletic form and will no doubt require you to push yourself to master them. There are, however, several benefits that come with this mastery.

Some of the physical benefits include:
